Kids prefer iPhone for filming

I know that the forum prefers to work on iPad and Mac, but in our international school in Geneva 2 pupils age 9 are excellent film producer and now we want to set up a workshop for this age group and a bit older for filming with iPhone as there hands are still small. Does anybody have an idea and even done something similar which we could learn from? Thank you in advance

Hi there! I have used iPhones for filming quite a bit in my Cinematic Arts program. However, that is high school level. One of the main reasons many people on the forum prefer iPad has a lot to do with state and district regulations here in the United States. Cellphones are prohibited in several districts and schools. That being said, when you mention wanting to create a workshop, what are some of the details you are considering? One day? Multiple days? There are a lot of online resources for this type of setup, just need to have a little better understanding of what you want to accomplish to help get you some resources that would be the most beneficial!

Hi Tara thank you for responding, In our school phones and iPad if not used for classwork are put away till the end of school. The teacher who wanted to create that course was motivated seeing one 9 year old almost perfectly doing documentaries and editing of it. So she asked the parents association to buy 3 iPhones SE 2 in order to give a group of max 10 pupils the possibility to produce documentaries during the whole school year. My daughter being 13 had an iPad since she was 3 and an iPhone since she was 6 hoping she would be interested in STEM. So I encourage that teacher and want to give her some input. Any idea you may have is definitely welcome.Thanking in advance for your possible contribution I remain sincerely yours Stephan

Got it. I think there are alot of free resources on the web that could help you customize a curriculum for iPhone Filmmaking. Some of the material is older, but there are some golden gems like:

  • Cassius Rayner's Mobile Filmmaking YouTube Channel
  • Apple's Everyone Can Create Projects - can be used to create ideas/projects even with phones
  • No Film School - YouTube Channel - lots of great resource videos
  • Apple ADE Michael Hernandez's Book "Storytelling with Purpose" has a lot of wonderful video storytelling projects geared towards students
  • Search Facebook Groups for iPhone Filmmaking and you will be surprised what you find
  • Many of the posts on this Forum that discuss using iPads can be tweaked to use an iPhone.

I hope this helps a little!
