Remix Your Classroom: Create Songs with Students

This iPad lesson is a strategy you can use to make 3rd-6th graders into content creators, making those difficult vocabulary terms stick with a catchy beat. Students can make concepts come to life by choosing their own pathway using GarageBand, Clips, Keynote, or iMovie. Project timeline, 5 steps- brainstorm, remix, movement, blend, share
Project Timeline

  1. Brainstorm- select a vocabulary term and brainstorm some songs to remix
  2. Remix-select one song, pick a small section of the song and rewrite the lyrics to help memorize the term
  3. Movement-pair the remixed song with purposeful movements
  4. Blend-put it all together and pick a project pathway (Clips, Keynote, GarageBand, or iMovie)
  5. Share-upload the song to the Keynote template provided and get ready to perform

Each slide contains guidance and tips to help support learners in their song writing process. Slide 8 contains an exemplar that can used to introduce the project.
